Here you will find labour landmarks, located in various places around the city. (12 photos)

This anchor stands in Holy Cross Cemetery in Saint John West. Its purpose is to honour six seamen who were lost at sea. Five of the men were lost during the Second World War (1942-1945) One of the names is dated 1958. The men are identified as natives of England, Ireland, Greece and France.

The Saint John District Labour Council had this Labour Bell mural painted on one of the pillars of the Harbour Bridge. The mural can be viewed as you drive along Hilyard Street.

This Headstone of James E. Tighe was erected in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in 1938 by Local 273 of the International Longshoremen’s Association. James Tighe was a pioneer in provincial labour history and rose to the rank of first vice-president of the International Longshoremen’s Association. He came to an untimely death in 1937 as a result of a car accident. Note the image of a modern cargo ship at the top of the headstone.

This Monument, which was erected by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 502, is in memory of all their Borthers who have passed on. The Monument was unveiled on October 1st, 2011. It is located in Kiwanis Court, in the City's North End, outside the IBEW, Local 502 Training Centre.

This monument was erected in 2003 by Local 273 of the International Longshoremen’s Association. The monument pays tribute to all the port workers of the City who have been killed while working on the Saint John waterfront. Dating from the early 19th century, over 185 names are listed on the four faces of the monument. The monument is located along Harbour Passage on Long Wharf Trail.

Granite Stone that describes The April 28th Day Of Mourning Monument.

This is the Fire Fighters Museum, located on Sydney Street. Build in 1840 as a firehall designed to house a volunteer brigade. Today, the building operates as a fire fighters museum and is maintained by Local 771 of the International Association of Fire Fighters. The structure is the earliest known example of a Canadian firehall built to house hand operated fire engines. The building has been declared a Provincial Historic Site.

This memorial is located in St. Patrick’s Square at the foot of Prince William Street. It was dedicated on October 3, 1967 to the seven men who were drown when their pilot boat was cut in half by the incoming freighter S.S. Fort Avalon. The event took place on the 14th of January 1957. The temperature was -22 degrees and a thick vapour lay over the Saint John Waterfront.

This April 28th “Day of Mourning” Monument was erected to honour workers killed or injured on the job. The monument was commissioned by the Hatheway Trust and is the work of New Brunswick artists Fred Harrison and Darren Byers. The monument was officially dedication on April 28, 2011. It is located in Rockwood Park, outside the Frank & Ella Hatheway Labour Exhibit Centre.

This Headstone of George R. Melvin stands in Fern Hill Cemetery. It was erected in 1955 by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour in recognition of his many years of service as Secretary-Treasurer of the Federation. The stone is inscribed with the words “36 years of unselfish faithful service, well done thou good and faithful servant.” The crest at the top of the stone is the symbol of the old Trades & Labour Congress of Canada.

This Fire Fighters memorial is located in Kings Square and dedicated to Saint John Fire Fighters who answered their last alarm. The plaque contains the names of ten fallen Fire Fighters. The bell is the original 5,000—pound “City Fire Alarm Bell.” The Bell was dedicated at the present location on August 19, 1986.
