On the 28th of March 1976 over 600 people crowded into St. Malachy's High School to hear labour leaders condemn the governments wage control program. New Brunswick Liberal Opposition leader Bob Higgins showed up at the meeting and the crowd insisted on letting him speak. The reason for the glum look on everyone's face is that, to their right, Higgins is at the podium telling the audience " they should give wage controls a chance." Left to Right: George Vair, President of the Saint John District Labour Council; Paul LePage, President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour; Bob White, Administrative Assistant to the UAW Canadian Director; Shirley Carr, Executive Vice- President of the Canadian Labour Congress; Richard Deaton , Research Department, Canadian Union of Public Employees.
